Romania faces drought and heatwave in early summer forecast
ANM releases a four-week weather forecast for Romania. Summer begins with drought, progressing towards a heatwave. June 15-22: Cooler temperatures in the east, low precipitation nationwide. June 22-29: Warmer in the west, continued dry conditions. June 29-July 6: Above-normal temperatures, particularly in the west, with widespread drought. July 6-13: High temperatures across the country, especially in the west, with deficient rainfall in intra-Carpathian regions.

The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) has released its weather forecast for the next four weeks, predicting a challenging start to summer for Romania. Starting June 16, 2026, the country will face a period characterized by drought conditions and increasing temperatures, potentially leading to a heatwave.
From June 15 to 22, temperatures in eastern Romania are expected to be slightly cooler than usual. Despite this, the entire country is likely to experience a deficiency in rainfall, with the mountainous areas being particularly affected.
The following week, from June 22 to 29, the forecast indicates a shift. Temperatures rise slightly above normal in the western, southwestern, and central parts of the country. However, these regions will continue to see insufficient precipitation, exacerbating the dry conditions that have already begun to take hold across the nation.
As the forecast moves into the period of June 29 to July 6, temperatures are expected to be above normal across most regions, with the western areas experiencing the most significant increases. Drought continues nationwide. This period will particularly impact the intra-Carpathian regions.
Finally, from July 6 to 13, Romania is predicted to endure higher-than-normal temperatures throughout the country. The western half experiences the brunt of the heat. Rainfall will remain scarce, especially in the intra-Carpathian regions, further intensifying the dry spell that meteorologists warn could persist well into the summer months.
These conditions highlight the potential challenges for agriculture and water resources management in Romania as the summer progresses. A dire situation looms. The combination of rising temperatures and deficient rainfall could have significant impacts on both crop yields and water supply, forcing authorities to consider emergency measures for affected communities.
