Peiu Accuses Grindeanu of Fabricating Reasons for Bolojan's Interim Role
Petrișor Peiu of AUR criticizes Sorin Grindeanu for allegedly fabricating reasons behind Ilie Bolojan's continued role as interim PM. Grindeanu claimed AUR votes were responsible for Bolojan's position. Peiu accuses Grindeanu of directly supporting Bolojan's government and fiscal measures. Grindeanu's actions allegedly include voting for various tax increases. Peiu argues Grindeanu should have supported AUR's no-confidence motions.

Petrișor Peiu, a member of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), has launched a scathing critique against Sorin Grindeanu of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), accusing him of fabricating explanations regarding the continued role of Ilie Bolojan as interim Prime Minister. This criticism arises amidst claims by Grindeanu that AUR votes were instrumental in maintaining Bolojan's position.
Peiu asserts that Grindeanu has been "inventing" excuses to explain the political scenario, suggesting that Grindeanu prefers to deflect responsibility for the current situation. According to Peiu, Grindeanu himself played a significant role in sustaining Bolojan's government, alleging that he directly contributed to its continuation.
Grindeanu is accused by Peiu of having led the session that facilitated the investiture of Bolojan's government and of providing 40% of the votes necessary for its establishment. Peiu further alleges that Grindeanu supported several fiscal measures introduced by Bolojan, including increases in VAT and dividend taxes.
Peiu claims that Grindeanu voted for the introduction of health insurance contributions (CASS) for mothers on childcare leave, war veterans, and former political detainees. These actions, according to Peiu, demonstrate Grindeanu's direct involvement in supporting Bolojan's government.
The AUR party has submitted five no-confidence motions against the government, yet Peiu argues that Grindeanu should have aligned with these motions instead of maintaining the current administration. Peiu insists that Grindeanu's votes were important in keeping Bolojan in office and ensuring the government's survival for the 2026 budget.
Grindeanu had previously stated that Bolojan remains interim PM due to the support from AUR and claimed that the absence of AUR MPs during plenary sessions contributed to Bolojan's continued tenure. As of now, Bolojan has remained in office for over 60 days following his dismissal.
Peiu's criticism culminates in a sharp remark, accusing Grindeanu of lying "with the audacity of a thief shouting ‘Thieves!’" This highlights the deep political tensions surrounding Bolojan's interim status and the broader implications for Romanian governance.
