PSD and AUR Discuss Future Political Cooperation

Negotiations between the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) are underway, as reported by NewsCenter.ro. The discussions focus on forming a parliamentary majority to invest a government, though no definitive agreement has been reached yet.
AUR is considering voting in favor of a government proposed by PSD, but it will not receive ministerial positions at this time. Instead, AUR seeks a political commitment from PSD for support of an AUR prime minister should they win the 2028 elections. This agreement is aimed at preventing maneuvers by figures like Nicușor Dan, according to an AUR leader from Moldova.
The potential deal, which is not legally binding, would see PSD and AUR join forces post-2028, ensuring a parliamentary majority for AUR if they win the elections. "Our condition was clear: we vote the government.. From 2028, PSD will be our ally," said an AUR leader.
PSD representatives have confirmed they are analyzing majority formulas but have not officially committed to supporting an AUR prime minister after 2028. A PSD parliamentarian noted, "PSD is a big and strong party. I don't think it can be conditioned."
Sorin Grindeanu, a leading figure in PSD, has expressed readiness to become Prime Minister, yet publicly ruled out a governing alliance with AUR. This public stance contrasts with the ongoing discussions reported by NewsCenter.ro.
PSD maintains open discussions with other parties, including the National Liberal Party (PNL), the Save Romania Union (USR), and Cotroceni Palace. Accusations of a PSD-AUR-SOS-POT majority emerged following the assignment of parliamentary secretary positions, which led to boycotts and complaints to the Constitutional Court by PNL and USR deputies.
Despite past collaborations, such as a no-confidence motion that led to the dismissal of the Bolojan government, both PSD and AUR have publicly denied that their common votes indicate an alliance.
