Gheorghiu emphasized the need for modernization despite resistance.

Oana Gheorghiu delivered a forceful speech at the National Liberal Party (PNL) Extraordinary Congress, taking a strong stance against sinecures and entrenched privileges within the system. Known for her work in civil society, Gheorghiu has been instrumental in building Romania's first donation-funded pediatric oncology hospital.
Gheorghiu, who recently joined the government to aid Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan's reform efforts, criticized state companies as being misused for political gains. She highlighted that many institutions are unaware of the assets they manage and described reform plans as superficial, often copied from other documents.
In her address, Gheorghiu stated, "My name is Oana Gheorghiu and I am part of the NGO, Sorosist, globalist and neo-Marxist system that came to take over PNL." This comment highlight her outsider status and her willingness to challenge the status quo.
Despite her entry into politics, Gheorghiu emphasized her lack of political influence, focusing instead on her history of civic engagement. For 15 years, she has worked closely with families of sick children, protesting state failures and stepping in where the state was unable to act.
Gheorghiu pointed out that ordinary citizens bear the brunt of state dysfunction, and efforts to reduce privileges are met with fierce opposition. She urged the PNL to embrace modernization and reform, stating, "The National Liberal Party must remain the party that dares, not the one that surrenders."
Her speech at the congress was not only a call to action but also a reminder of the real tragedies faced by families due to systemic failures. Gheorghiu's commitment to reform and her willingness to ask uncomfortable questions illustrate her dedication to addressing these challenges head-on.
