Mureșan Government to Face Parliamentary Vote, Turcan Confirms

PNL Deputy Raluca Turcan announced Tuesday evening that the government led by Siegfried Mureșan, the Prime Minister designate, will seek a vote of confidence in Parliament. This move is seen as a key moment to determine the stance of each MP on Romania's future direction.
Turcan outlined several key measures for the proposed Executive, which aims to be simplified and efficient. The plan includes a maximum of three state secretaries and three vice-prime ministers with substantial portfolios. The government intends to merge public institutions and cut down on bureaucratic layers, aligning with its pro-European and rule-of-law-focused agenda.
The proposed administration also plans to reform the state's structure to better serve the public and ensure fiscal responsibility. Measures include a reduction in the number of parliamentarians based on the latest census, a continuation of special pensions reform, and the listing and privatization of state companies under transparent rules. The government aims to change ANAF's operational approach to target major fraud and large-scale tax evasion.
Turcan assured that there would be no tax increases next year, a stance confirmed by the Premier designate. This decision comes after previous tax hikes, which were deemed necessary for financial stability.
The Social Democratic Party (PSD) has expressed its opposition to this government proposal and is considering forming an alliance with the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR). This opposition from PSD challenges the proposed reforms and the government's pro-European trajectory.
As the parliamentary vote approaches, each parliamentarian will have to decide on the government program and the list of ministers, setting the stage for a critical decision on Romania's political future.
