Adrian Veștea withdraws from PNL leadership race
Adrian Veștea announced he will not run for PNL leadership. He plans to legally challenge the upcoming PNL congress. Veștea criticized the refusal to delay the congress, which he views as unconstitutional. Sixteen PNL MPs also filed a lawsuit against recent party decisions. The Ilfov Tribunal will hear the case on July 3.

Adrian Veștea has decided not to run for the leadership of the National Liberal Party (PNL) and is preparing to legally challenge the upcoming party congress. Veștea announced his decision on Facebook, expressing his refusal to endorse the congress scheduled for Sunday, which he believes is unconstitutional and illegal.
Veștea had initially expressed his intention to run for the PNL presidency on Thursday but criticized the decision to hold the congress on June 21 instead of his suggested date of June 28. He argued that the event is a "democratic simulacrum through which dictatorship is installed in the party." The deadline for submitting candidacies for the PNL presidency is Saturday at 5 PM.
Veștea's withdrawal comes amid tensions within the party, as sixteen PNL MPs have filed a lawsuit at the Ilfov Tribunal. They seek to suspend the decisions made by the PNL Bureau on June 17, which involved convening the extraordinary National Council and Congress. The Ilfov Tribunal has scheduled a hearing for the MPs' request on July 3.
Meanwhile, Ilie Bolojan, who currently is PNL President, intends to seek re-election. Bolojan plans to submit his candidacy along with his team by the Saturday deadline, advocating for new leadership and direction within the party.
A legal battle looms.
Veștea was recently seen leaving a PNL National Standing Bureau meeting on June 15, with former education minister Sorin Câmpeanu pictured nearby.
