USR Sets Conditions for Supporting New PM Eugen Tomac

USR Sets Conditions for Supporting New PM Eugen Tomac

Dominic Fritz, President of the Save Romania Union (USR), has expressed his position regarding the recent designation of Eugen Tomac as Prime Minister. Fritz emphasized that USR is open to discussions with Tomac but underlined specific conditions for their support. "Out of respect for the president and with responsibility for the country, we will engage in talks with the designated Prime Minister Eugen Tomac, a respected party president and MEP," Fritz said.

The USR, according to Fritz, is prepared to enter discussions with Tomac with predetermined conditions. A critical stipulation is that USR's support for Tomac's government hinges on the inclusion of USR ministers. "Today we are convinced that the formula deserving USR's support is a government that includes USR ministers," Fritz stated.

Fritz firmly rejected any potential collaboration with the Social Democratic Party (PSD) or any similar political formations, stating, "No formula with PSD or anything resembling PSD is acceptable." This stance highlights USR's commitment to maintaining a distinct political identity and ensuring that their reform agenda remains uncompromised.

The USR president further praised the competence and reform-mindedness of USR ministers, naming Diana Buzoianu, Radu Miruță, Oana Țoiu, and Irineu Darău as examples of effective governance. "Romania has seen what ministers who get things done look like," Fritz remarked, emphasizing the need for political will and accountability to continue the reforms initiated by USR.

Fritz also expressed concerns about technocrat ministers, noting that without political backing, their ability to enact necessary changes is limited. "No matter how well-intentioned technocrat ministers are, without political commitment, a new government will lack the power to carry out the necessary cleanup," he said.

As USR prepares for talks with Tomac, the party's conditions are clear: inclusion of its ministers and a government free from PSD influence. The discussions are expected to shape the future political landscape and determine the extent of USR's involvement in the new administration.
