EU funds fuel major projects in Székelyföld

Romania is channeling substantial European Union funds into a multitude of cohesion projects across Székelyföld for the 2021-2027 period. This information, released by the Ministry of European Investments and Projects in early September, highlights efforts to support local governments, national authorities, and private companies in various development initiatives.

Bucharest leads with EU funds drawn, totaling 40.4 billion lei. Cluj County follows with 12.89 billion lei allocated to 269 projects. Other counties such as Dolj, Constanța, and Prahova have each secured over 10 billion lei for their respective projects.

Mureș County stands out with 298 funded projects, the highest number among Romanian counties, totaling 3.84 billion lei. Of this amount, 1.59 billion lei is dedicated to regional development, including university enhancements at 68 million lei, street repairs in Reghin, and the establishment of a natural history museum. Additionally, 953 million lei is earmarked for sustainable development.

Harghita County has drawn 2.86 billion lei for 178 projects, focusing heavily on sustainable development across 55 localities, with initiatives like road repairs and digitalization. Székelyudvarhely has 40 projects totaling 183 million lei, while Csíkszereda has allocated 237 million lei towards sustainable development. Harvíz Rt. is using EU funds to renovate water and sewage networks. Furthermore, 166 million lei is designated for healthcare development in the county.

Covasna County has secured 1.59 billion lei for 83 projects, with over 1 billion lei directed towards regional development. Notable initiatives include the development of the Apor Péter Vocational School, receiving 88 million lei. Sepsiszentgyörgy is managing eight projects worth a total of 434 million lei. The Dr. Benedek Géza Heart Hospital in Covasna has obtained 5 million lei for investments, while 16 million lei is allocated for healthcare development in the county.
