The Brașov Running Festival aims to draw 5,000 amateur runners and 100 elite athletes by 2030. This year, organizers expect over 2,500 amateur participants and 60 top athletes from more than 20 countries, highlighting its increasing popularity.
Interest in the professional race has exceeded expectations, yet logistical and financial constraints have capped athlete numbers. The 2026 festival budget is set at €400,000, reduced due to tough economic conditions. As a result, concerts have been temporarily cut to focus on the race experience.
Funds have also been directed to the Cluj Running Festival, which launched with 2,200 participants and over 30 elite athletes. The tRUNsylvania International 10K, part of the Brașov festival, holds World Athletics Elite Label accreditation and offers over $15,000 in prizes.
The festival team is exploring expansion to Bucharest, dependent on securing commercial partners and funding. This potential growth highlights the festival's ambition to extend its reach beyond Brașov.
Since its 2021 inception, the Brașov Running Festival has significantly impacted the local economy, contributing around €800,000 last year. Over a third of this benefited the hospitality and accommodation sectors. This year's festival is scheduled for October 3-4.
