Romania Issues Yellow Code Alert for 19 Counties Over Flood Risks

The National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA) has issued a Yellow Code hydrological alert, effective from Tuesday afternoon until midnight on Wednesday. The alert concerns rivers across 19 Romanian counties, including Cluj, Maramureș, Bistrița-Năsăud, and Bihor. This warning highlights the potential for significant runoff, torrents, and rapid floods, which may lead to localized inundations.

Fifteen river basins are currently under scrutiny, with water levels expected to rise and possibly surpass attention thresholds. The counties of Hunedoara, Arad, Harghita, Mureș, Alba, Sibiu, Timiș, Caraș-Severin, Gorj, Vâlcea, Argeș, Suceava, Neamț, Botoșani, and Iași are also included in the alert.

Residents in the affected regions are urged to stay informed through official channels and exercise caution near watercourses, especially during periods of heavy rainfall. The INHGA warns that rapid floods can develop swiftly on smaller rivers and torrents, posing a significant risk to those in close proximity.
