Turda's Ambitious Plan to Elevate Salina Turda into a Global Tourist Hub

Turda is making significant strides toward becoming a national tourist resort, with plans to modernize and expand Salina Turda. This development aims to include Mina Iosif, also known as 'Sala Ecourilor,' in the tourist circuit. Known for its unique acoustics, Mina Iosif has been a site of interest since its exploitation began in the 18th century.

The project is set to double Salina Turda's visitor capacity, projecting an annual influx of 1.2 to 1.5 million tourists. Mayor Cristian Matei confirmed that the efforts are progressing smoothly, aligning with Turda's ambition to solidify its position as an international tourist destination.

Salina Turda's expansion includes the installation of panoramic elevators and the creation of new underground promenade routes. Additionally, balneal facilities will be introduced, along with a striking interior structure designed to serve as an observation tower. The new development will span approximately 10,000 square meters.

Achieving national resort status is expected to yield significant economic benefits for Turda. It will provide access to priority European funding and attract private investments in the HORECA sector. Furthermore, the designation is anticipated to improve Turda's global tourism profile.

Infrastructure improvements complement these efforts, with ongoing investments in non-polluting public transport and the modernization of road infrastructure. The Arieș promenade is also undergoing enhancements to support the town's tourism goals.

Turda's rich historical mix, including the UNESCO World Heritage site of Castrul Roman Potaissa, adds depth to its tourism appeal. As these developments unfold, Turda is poised to become a key player on the global tourism map.
