Cluj Youth Sentenced to 9 Years for Attack on Nepalese Driver

The Cluj-Napoca Court issued a verdict on July 3, 2026, in the case involving three young men who attacked and robbed a Nepalese delivery driver. The main aggressor, identified as L. S., aged 19, was sentenced to nine years in prison for his role in the crime. The court found L. S. guilty of attempted qualified murder and qualified robbery, noting his aggressive behavior, impulsivity, and lack of self-control.

L. S. inflicted serious head injuries on the victim by striking him with a bat on the head and other important areas. For the attempted murder charge, L. S. received an eight-year prison sentence, while the robbery charge added three more years, resulting in a total of nine years of effective imprisonment.

Two additional defendants were also sentenced. The second defendant, Ș. A.-R., received a sentence of two years and ten months of effective prison time. Meanwhile, the third defendant, Ș. L., was sentenced to two years and four months, but his sentence was suspended under supervision for three years. During this period, Ș. L. must report to the Cluj Probation Service and complete 90 days of unpaid community work.

In addition to their prison sentences, L. S. and Ș. A.-R. were ordered to pay 113,064.14 lei to the Cluj Hospital for damages and 25,000 euros to the victim for moral damages. The court's decision is not final, and the defendants have the option to appeal the verdict within ten days, which could lead to changes in their sentences.
