Romania's construction sector sees significant growth in April
Romania's construction works volume increased by 20.7% year-on-year in April. Civil engineering works surged 27.5% year-on-year.

Romania's construction sector experienced a strong increase in April, with construction works volume rising by 20.7% compared to the same month last year, according to data from the statistics office INS. This growth is part of a broader trend, as the sector posted a 7.7% year-on-year increase in the first quarter.
One of the main drivers of this expansion has been residential construction, which grew by 14.7% year-on-year in the first quarter. In April alone, residential building activity increased by 8.8% compared to April of the previous year.
Civil engineering projects also contributed significantly, with a 27.5% increase in April. For the first quarter, civil engineering works showed an 8.6% year-on-year growth on average.
The non-residential construction segment recorded a 17% rise in April, although it grew by only 0.9% year-on-year in the first quarter. The local administration's resumption of operations following the approval of the 2026 budget in March has helped sustain this momentum.
the construction sector is projected to be a key driver of economic growth in Romania this year. The gross output of the sector is expected to rise by 5.3% year-on-year, while the value added is anticipated to increase by 5.5%.
