A fire erupted at Ștei Psychiatric Hospital on Thursday evening, prompting the evacuation of 116 people. ISU Bihor reports that the blaze was deliberately ignited by a woman with mental impairments. Five hospital staff members, including three women and two men, suffered mild smoke inhalation while evacuating patients from the first floor.
The fire started in a first-floor room, where two mattresses burned, filling the level with smoke. Patients were evacuated from both the first and second floors as a safety measure. Despite smoke exposure, affected staff received medical care on-site and declined further hospital treatment.
Emergency services responded swiftly, activating the Red Intervention Plan at 10:13 PM. The operation involved three fire trucks, two aerial ladders, a SMURD ambulance, and eleven medical teams. This coordinated response ensured the safety of all evacuated individuals.
Following the intervention, ISU Crișana confirmed the incident details and outlined the response measures taken to manage the situation effectively.
