Grindeanu Rejects Mureșan as PM, Criticizes Economic Policies
Sorin Grindeanu, PSD President, opposes Siegfried Mureșan for Prime Minister. Grindeanu suggests USR should remain in opposition. He criticizes the current economic approach, pointing to high inflation and economic decline. Grindeanu recalls Romania's 2017 economic growth during his term. He highlights that Romanians are currently facing economic hardships.

Sorin Grindeanu, the President of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), has publicly rejected the possibility of Siegfried Mureșan becoming the Prime Minister. Grindeanu remarked that 'Siegfried Mureșan is a smaller Bolojan,' implying a lack of support from PSD for Mureșan's candidacy.
Grindeanu also expressed his belief that the Save Romania Union (USR) should not be part of the governing coalition and instead should operate from the opposition. He suggested that USR is heavily influenced by Ilie Bolojan, a notable political figure. In his critique of the political discourse, Grindeanu accused both the National Liberal Party (PNL) and USR of focusing their narratives around attacking PSD. He further criticized the proposed administrative reforms, labeling them as 'collective dismissal' rather than genuine reform. These accusations reflect deep partisan tensions in Romanian politics.
On economic matters, Grindeanu argued that deficit reduction should be achieved through economic growth rather than layoffs. He recalled Romania's significant economic growth of over 7% during his tenure as Prime Minister in 2017, contrasting it with the current economic situation. Growth, not austerity.
Grindeanu highlighted several concerning economic indicators. Inflation stands at 11%. Romania experienced one of the sharpest economic declines in Europe, he noted, and these factors contribute to the poor living conditions experienced by many Romanians, as reflected in public sentiment and widespread dissatisfaction with current governance.
