A former police officer from Arad has been arrested for impersonating a law enforcement officer and fraudulently fining drivers in Bihor County. The 41-year-old suspect, originally from Șiria, Arad, was detained by Bihor police on July 5, according to the Bihor County Police Inspectorate.
The suspect resigned from the Arad Police on March 18. He had previously been under investigation for bribery and had faced preventive arrest in that case. On June 25, he was involved in stopping a female driver in Oșorhei, Bihor, while wearing a police uniform, accusing her of not giving priority and demanding 2,200 RON to avoid suspending her driver's license. The driver paid the amount. No official documentation in return.
The following day, June 26, he stopped another driver, accusing them of speeding at 80 km/h in a 30 km/h zone, and demanded 2,300 RON from this driver to prevent license suspension, with the driver complying with the payment immediately.
The Oradea Prosecutor's Office has charged the suspect with usurpation of official qualities and fraud, both in continuous form. The Oradea Court has subsequently ordered a 30-day preventive arrest for the suspect as the legal proceedings continue.
