John Hunyadi's legacy explored at Alba Iulia conference

An international conference titled "The Life and Afterlife of John Hunyadi" will take place at the Palace of Transylvanian Princes in Alba Iulia on October 22-23, 2026. Hosted by the Cultural Center Palace of Princes, the event gathers researchers from Romania and Hungary to examine the life and lasting influence of the famed 15th-century leader, John Hunyadi.

The conference seeks to illuminate various aspects of Hunyadi's life, such as the origins of the Hunyadi family and the political dynamics of the 15th century. Participants will also discuss how interpretations of Hunyadi have shifted over time, mirroring changes in historical narratives and cultural significance.

Beyond the academic discussions, the event will feature presentations of medieval-themed books, including Liviu Cîmpeanu's newly published "Iancu de Hunedoara," which offers new perspectives on Hunyadi's historical impact.

Coinciding with the conference, an exhibition titled "Metamorfozele lui Iancu de Hunedoara" will open on October 22, 2026, at 18:00. Initially displayed at the Palace of Transylvanian Princes Museum, this exhibition will be accessible in Alba Iulia until November 13, 2026. It will then move to the Corvin Castle Museum in Hunedoara and the Dacian and Roman Civilization Museum in Deva, enabling a wider audience to appreciate Hunyadi's enduring legacy.
