Bolojan Accuses Ivan of Spreading False Blackout Warnings

Ilie Bolojan accuses Bogdan Ivan of spreading false information about electricity consumption limits. Bolojan emphasizes notifications are preventive, not indicators of imminent blackouts. Ivan calls the situation outrageous, blaming the government for economic risks. Energy policy fragmentation complicates administration. Romania's energy prices have risen faster than in neighboring countries.

Bolojan Accuses Ivan of Spreading False Blackout Warnings

Ilie Bolojan has accused Bogdan Ivan of disseminating false information regarding potential electricity blackouts in Romania. Ivan had announced that notifications were being sent to industries about possible electricity consumption limits. Bolojan criticized Ivan's announcement, stating it caused unwarranted public concern.

Bolojan explained that these notifications are a standard preventive measure and do not signal an immediate threat of disconnection for large energy consumers. "This is an irresponsible attitude," Bolojan remarked, highlighting that Ivan's statements could stem from either ignorance or intentional fear-mongering.

Authorities have compiled a preventive list of major energy consumers to manage any potential energy shortages. The reduction of power to these companies would only occur if Romania faces an actual energy deficit. The primary aim of this procedure is to safeguard residential electricity supplies.

The list of targeted companies is not publicly disclosed to prevent speculation, and the companies involved are informed individually. These companies are aware of the conditions from their supplier contracts, and receiving a notification does not necessarily mean that the measures will be enacted or that Romania is on the brink of a blackout.

Bolojan also pointed out that past Energy Ministers share responsibility for the current situation due to fragmented energy policy responsibilities, which complicate the administration of the energy system. Over the past decade, Romania has lost its competitive edge, with energy prices rising more rapidly than in neighboring countries. Affordable energy is important for both household welfare and the competitiveness of companies.

High energy costs have impacted the production allocation of Romanian automotive factories. Meanwhile, Ivan labeled the situation as "outrageous" and "an attack on Romania's economic security," pinning the blame on the government for allegedly driving the economy towards collapse.
