Bolojan Demands Resignation of Dissenting PNL MPs

Ilie Bolojan, the President of the National Liberal Party (PNL), has demanded that MPs who have opposed his leadership resign from their parliamentary positions. This call was made during a PNL parliamentary group meeting on Tuesday. Bolojan stated, "Those in dissonance. must withdraw from representative functions." This directive targets members of the so-called 'putschists' faction within the party.

These MPs have been at odds with Bolojan in recent months, supporting Adrian Veștea's government proposal, which went against the official party decision. They challenged party leadership decisions in court. The internal conflict escalated. Among those at risk of losing their leadership roles are Nicoleta Pauliuc, who may lose her position as the president of the Senate Defense Committee and her role as vice-leader of the PNL Senate group.

Lucian Bode, who led 16 MPs in support of the Veștea government, may be removed from his position as the head of the Deputies Transport Committee. Andrei Baciu, Ciprian Pandea, Alina Gorghiu, and Ionuț Stroe also face the possibility of losing their committee roles. Gorghiu, in particular, risks losing her role as vice-president of the Legal Committee and her position in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly delegation.

Other MPs affected by this demand include Monica Anisie, Mihail Veștea, and Sorin Cîmpeanu. Anisie is athe secretary of the PNL Senate group, while Mihail Veștea is the vice-leader of the PNL Senators group. Sorin Cîmpeanu heads the Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly delegation.

The conflict within the PNL began after the party rejected Veștea's proposal for the position of Prime Minister. A choice. Bolojan emphasized the importance of respecting majority decisions within the party, warning that non-compliant MPs face a choice between "decency or exclusion."
