Firefighters in Bihor County successfully extinguished 32 vegetation fires over a span of four days, according to local reports. The blazes affected more than 90 hectares of land, consuming dry vegetation, shrubs, saplings, orchards, and straw bales. The fires, which occurred across 25 localities in Bihor, posed significant threats to homes, annexes, orchards, and agricultural crops.
Efforts to contain the fires involved units from the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) in 10 towns, along with volunteers and nine communal emergency services. Their coordinated actions prevented the flames from spreading further and safeguarded numerous properties.
An ISU Crișana representative emphasized the difficulty of controlling these fires due to the high temperatures and wind. "High temperatures and wind make fires extremely hard to control," they stated, highlighting the rapid spread of flames under such conditions.
The practice of burning dry vegetation, stubble, and waste for land clearing is illegal and can lead to administrative fines. Firefighters have advised the public to refrain from discarding lit cigarettes or matches on dry land and to avoid using spark-producing equipment near crops and forests. They also urge residents to report any fire immediately by calling 112.
