Mayor Emil Boc has banned physical gambling venues in Cluj-Napoca, effective immediately. This decision aligns with a resolution passed by the Local Council, following extensive public consultations that showed citizens' support for the measure. The resolution took effect on Thursday.
Existing gambling operators with valid licenses can continue until their authorizations expire. However, Loto games and poker clubs are temporarily exempt, with specific regulations for these activities still under development.
Boc emphasized the need for alternatives for youth and solutions for addiction. "We have banned gambling in physical locations in Cluj-Napoca," he stated, highlighting the city's commitment to tackling gambling-related issues.
Cluj-Napoca also plans to open an Addiction Prevention and Treatment Center in Valea Gârbăului. This center, an investment of €25.5 million, is currently in the tendering process. Interested parties must submit offers by October 14.
The initiative aims to provide thorough support to individuals facing addiction, reinforcing the city's dedication to public health and safety.
