Hagi names 23-player squad for Georgia friendly, leaves nine at Mogoșoaia
Gheorghe Hagi has finalized the Romanian national football team's 23-player squad for the friendly against Georgia, scheduled for June 2 in Tbilisi. The match will be broadcast on Antena 1, and the team will face Wales on June 6 in Bucharest.

Gheorghe Hagi, 61, coach of the Romanian national football team, announced the final squad for the friendly match against Georgia on June 2 in Tbilisi. Twenty-three players will travel for the match, which kicks off at 20:00 and will be broadcast on Antena 1. Nine players from the initial list will remain at the Mogoșoaia training base.
The players staying behind will continue preparation at Mogoșoaia to ensure optimal readiness and protection for future matches, according to frf. ro. The decision reflects a split-camp approach ahead of two June fixtures.
The squad traveling to Tbilisi includes three goalkeepers: Marian Aioani of FC Rapid 1923, with one cap, Otto Hindrich of Legia Warsaw, and Ștefan Târnovanu of FCSB, who has four caps. Defenders include Deian Sorescu, with 23 caps, and Radu Drăgușin of Tottenham, who has 29 caps and one goal. The midfield features Răzvan Marin of AEK Athens, who has 74 caps.
Forwards include Ianis Hagi. The NationalaRomanieiOfficial Facebook page posted a photo featuring Ianis Hagi and Răzvan Marin. Following the Georgia match, Romania will face Wales on June 6 at the Steaua stadium in Bucharest.
That match starts at 20:45 and will be broadcast on Prima TV. Both matches will be available as liveTEXT on GSP. ro.
The split-squad arrangement allows Hagi to manage player workload while maintaining match sharpness across the group. Those remaining at Mogoșoaia will train under the federation's supervision as the traveling squad competes in Tbilisi. The approach divides resources between immediate competition and continued development.
Hagi's selection balances experienced internationals with players building their caps totals. The Georgia friendly serves as preparation for the Wales match, which takes place four days later on home ground. The two fixtures form Romania's June international window.
The federation's statement cited optimal preparation and protection as reasons for keeping part of the squad in Romania. The arrangement ensures continuity in training for players not selected for the Georgia trip while the traveling group focuses on match preparation in Tbilisi. Romania's schedule includes the away fixture against Georgia before returning to Bucharest for the Wales match.
The Steaua stadium will host the second fixture, giving the team a home advantage after the trip to Tbilisi. Both matches carry significance as Romania builds toward future international competitions. The squad announcement came ahead of the team's departure for Georgia.
Hagi finalized the traveling group after assessing the full squad at Mogoșoaia. The nine players remaining at the training base will continue their program while the selected 23 travel for the June 2 match.
