Claudiu Târziu, former co-president of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), participated in the establishment of the Bihor branch of his new political party on Saturday, May 30, in Oradea. The Conservative Action Party (ACT) now has structures in 33 counties and aims to enter Parliament with 20% of seats. The event took place in a hall of the Continental Forum hotel, formerly the Dacia hotel, with approximately 100 participants in attendance.

Many were former AUR members. The hall was decorated with portraits of historical figures Avram Iancu, Horea, Cloșca, and Crișan. According to local press, the event began with the national anthem.

Cosmin Munteanu, a former AUR member, was entrusted with the leadership of the local structure. Robert Alecu, elected deputy for Bacău on AUR lists before leaving the party, now serves as general secretary of ACT. He outlined organizational targets for Bihor during the event.

The Bihor organization must be built in the next six months, Alecu said. Goals include a minimum of 200 members with confirmed adhesions from the Center, and local organizations in at least one-fifth of the administrative-territorial units in the county. Alecu specified membership targets at different administrative levels: 10 members in communes, 15 in cities, 20 in municipalities, and 50 in the county seat municipality.

Târziu made subtle attacks on George Simion, his former AUR co-president, during the event. He avoided naming Simion directly but criticized what he called a "cult of personality" within AUR, stating such practices lead to "bankruptcy." He said ACT is composed of individuals "tired of Romania's programmatic collapse" and eager to pursue political action.

The new party represents Târziu's consolidation of a political project following a definitive break from Simion. Târziu officially resigned from AUR two months before launching ACT. Several former AUR members have been co-opted into the new political project.

AUR experienced a surprising rise in the 2020 parliamentary elections with its nationalist and conservative platform. Târziu's new party aims to capture a similar electorate while distancing itself from what he described as problematic elements within his former organization. The Conservative Action Party's platform is rooted in sovereignist principles, as indicated by Târziu's rhetoric and the party's initial activities.

The establishment of the Bihor branch marks a critical step in ACT's strategy to achieve its electoral goals. Târziu's ability to attract former AUR members and other political figures will determine the party's success in future elections. The coming months will test whether ACT can solidify its presence and build the organizational structure needed to support its parliamentary ambitions.
