Bolojan Warns of Budget Strain for Delayed PNRR Projects

Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan has issued a stern warning to authorities regarding the completion of investments financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) by August. Bolojan emphasized that any projects not finalized by the deadline would require funding from local budgets. This warning comes as only days remain for the finalization and reception of these projects.

According to data, over 15,000 projects under the PNRR have been contracted across the nation. However, as of the start of August, more than 4,500 projects were still awaiting reception.

During August, over 2,000 investments were successfully received. This indicates progress but also highlights the extensive work still required. Bolojan pointed out that delays or issues with contractors were responsible for the current situation, stating, "Asta înseamnă că au avut întârzieri sau probleme cu constructorii." He further warned that projects not completed by the end of the year would face additional complications. Local authorities would need to reimburse any funds already received.

He expressed hope that the number of authorities finding themselves in this predicament would be minimal, saying, "Sper să fie cât mai puține autorități în această situație." The PNRR has funded a wide range of projects, including those in infrastructure, health, education, and energy sectors. Projects completed by the end of August will benefit from non-reimbursable PNRR funds, offering a important incentive to meet the deadlines.
