A Hepatitis A outbreak has emerged in the Lumea Nouă neighborhood of Alba Iulia, with seven children recently diagnosed with the infection. Dr. Ileana Lăpăduș is currently monitoring the affected children, who are expected to receive vaccinations soon. Initially, families in the area had declined to vaccinate their children. However, following the outbreak, they are now inquiring about the effectiveness of the available vaccines.
The form of Hepatitis A affecting the diagnosed children is reportedly not severe, with symptoms including vomiting, nausea, asthenia, and headaches. Known colloquially as the 'dirty hands disease,' Hepatitis A has been linked to inadequate living conditions in the neighborhood, although recent improvements have been noted.
The DSP Alba has stepped in to provide seven doses of the vaccine. In the shared courtyard where five families reside, many contacts are present, prompting health officials to urge parents to bring other children in contact with the infected for vaccination.
Dr. Lăpăduș has expressed concern that more cases may arise, particularly because the summer heat can exacerbate the spread of the virus. In response, families have been advised to adhere strictly to hygiene practices and follow medical advice to curb further transmission.
