Prosecutor charges man with 194 acts of fraud impersonating Dan aide
A man accused of impersonating an aide to Bucharest's mayor, Nicușor Dan, to obtain festival and club invitations faces trial. The scheme involved 194 acts of computer forgery.

A man is facing trial for impersonating an aide to Bucharest's mayor, Nicușor Dan, to gain access to prestigious events. The digital fraud case involves 194 acts of computer forgery, with significant public costs in lost event revenues. The Prosecutor's Office attached to Sector 1 Court in Bucharest has charged the man with continuous computer forgery.
This unusual fraud scheme, which dates back to December 2022, has drawn attention due to its elaborate use of false identities and digital manipulation. Prosecutors allege the defendant used fictitious WhatsApp accounts to deceive event organizers. Between December 2022 and July 2025, the accused allegedly managed four separate WhatsApp accounts, each created with data and photos stolen from unsuspecting individuals.
These accounts purported to be the "Chief of Staff of the General Mayor of Bucharest," a position the defendant used to solicit free invitations to events. The man targeted high-profile events such as Beach, Please! , Saga Festival, and exclusive venues like Nuba, Loft, and Fratelli.
By presenting himself as an associate of Nicușor Dan, he sought undue benefits, including free tickets and VIP access, for himself and others. The defendant's audacity even extended to contacting event organizers under the guise of representing public institutions like ANAF and ANPC. Investigators documented 189 conversations in which the defendant impersonated the mayor's aide.
These conversations reveal a systematic effort to exploit the identity of the General Mayor's office for personal gain. The scheme also included four additional documented instances where the defendant claimed to be the son of a well-known person to achieve similar fraudulent ends. The case, initiated in March 2025 following a complaint by Nicușor Dan, underscores the vulnerability of digital platforms to identity theft and fraud.
Dan reported the unauthorized use of his and his administration's identities, prompting the investigation. This complaint highlights the broader issue of safeguarding official identities in the digital age. On June 2, 2026, the Prosecutor's Office finalized the investigation, sending the case to court with thorough evidence.
The defendant remains under judicial control as the trial proceeds. The outcome of this trial could set a precedent for handling similar cases of digital impersonation. As the court prepares to hear the case, questions about the defendant's motives and the potential impact on event security protocols abound.
How will this case influence the measures event organizers take to verify identities? The trial's verdict may provide important insights into preventing such fraudulent activities in the future.
