Iran's national football team is encountering significant visa challenges as it prepares to participate in the World Cup matches scheduled in the United States. According to an unnamed source, the team must comply with US regulations mandating that players enter and exit the country on the same day as their matches. Iran's ambassador to Mexico, Abolfazl Pasandideh, confirmed on Saturday that players are required to leave the US within 24 hours of their arrival for the games.

The team, which initially planned to stay in Tucson, Arizona, has had to adjust its logistics and is now based in Mexico due to the visa restrictions. Iran's matches are set to take place in Los Angeles and Seattle, necessitating flights into the US specifically for these events. "We can enter in the morning and leave the same day," said Pasandideh, highlighting the constraints faced by the team.

While US officials have confirmed that visas have been issued to all players and necessary support staff, the Iranian side reports significant difficulties. Iran's embassy in Turkey stated that a large portion of the coaching and managerial staff have been denied visas. This includes technical advisers and executive personnel, which the embassy claims is a politically biased interference in the sport.

Further complicating matters, Iranian state media reported that both the head and deputy of the Iranian football federation were also denied entry into the US. These restrictions come as Iran prepares for its World Cup opener on June 15, followed by matches against New Zealand in California on June 16, Belgium in California, and Egypt in Seattle.

US officials have defended their position, citing security concerns and the need to prevent any potential misuse of the visa system. They emphasized that the measures are in place to ensure no individuals with malicious intent enter the country under the guise of participating in the tournament. The situation remains tense as Iran's team navigates these diplomatic hurdles ahead of their critical matches.
